BSB star Tom Sykes headlines the Race of the Year
World Superbike podium finisher and British Superbike multiple race winner Tom Sykes and his Rizla Suzuki team will be headlining the entry list for Mallory Park’s Race of the Year on the 19th October.
The 23-year old from Huddersfield has taken BSB by storm this season having won three races and taken a number of podium finishes.
Sykes also took the fight to World Superbike regulars Troy Bayliss and Noriyuki Haga at Donington Park, being cruelly robbed of a sure-fire win by a red flag and ending runner-up to World Champion elect Troy Bayliss in a race. He is one of Britain’s brightest racing stars of the future and is sure to attract a big crowd to the Friendly Leicestershire circuit. Last year Rizla Suzuki’s Cal Crutchlow took the honours and this time round Sykes will want to do the same, keeping the much coveted Race of the Year Trophy in the Suzuki berth.
More details on other top name riders attending the Race of the Year will be announced closer to the event.
With an open paddock and relaxed approach to the racing, Mallory Park’s Race of the Year is a favourite on the calendar for bike fans as it is the last chance of the year to see the big names in action before the winter break. The circuit’s unique friendly atmosphere means it is also easier to get an autograph or a photograph with a star than many other events.
Mallory Park MD John Ward said: “Tom Sykes is one of the biggest names in British Superbikes at the moment and after a brilliant podium performance at the European World Superbike round at Donington Park, he is hot property. We are delighted he is confirmed to be racing on his Rizla Suzuki at the Race of the Year on 19th October.
“It doesn’t stop there though, there are quite a few of the other BSB regulars who are hoping to make the race and win the silverware, so Tom will not have it all his own way.”
