Double celebration at Mallory Park
For a trip down memory lane why not visit Mallory Park on Sunday 18th May for the BARC’s Silver Jubilee Classic Car Championship Race meeting?
This meeting is celebrating 52 years of racing at Mallory Park and 25 years of circuit ownership by Chris Meek, who saved the circuit from property developers. As well as the celebrations linked to Mallory Park, the Nottingham Sports Car Club is also celebrating 60 years in motorsport along with the Ginetta Owners Club which has its 30th Anniversary, and the Ginetta marque which is 50 years old. On the 7th September at Mallory Park there will be a Ginetta Cars Race day in honour of the 50 year anniversary.
The BARC is supplying a full race programme which will see on track action from 09:30 when practice gets under way. Racing will begin at 14:00; the classes on track will be Classic and Historic Touring, Classic Clubmans, Post Historic Touring, Classic Formula Ford (1600 and 2000 races), Group One Touring and Pre 1993 Touring Car Championships.
The Nottingham Sports Car Club has organised for 90 vintage and classic cars, including the Ginetta which was relevant to Meek’s racing career, to assemble in the display area. There will be parades at 12:40 and 13:40, Meek will be driven round in a historic car with his family and then receive a presentation on track. His racing career and a history of Mallory Park will be on view in the form of a collage in the display area. There will also be a static display of Velocette motorcycles similar to the one that Meek raced back in the 1950s.
Other big names include Tim Parnell, David Brodie and Ivor Walklett who is one of the co-founders of Ginetta. To add to the nostalgia of the event there will be a “Dressed to period of the car” competition during the afternoon.
Admission costs £12.00, free entry for children under the age of 16; parking and paddock are also free. For further information or to purchase tickets please call 01455 842 931 or visit www.mallorypark.co.uk.
