Successful first race meeting for Mallory Park
The first race event to kick off the 2008 season at Mallory Park was the Buildbase Mallory Trophy Championship Motorcycle Races which was heralded a success by all those involved over the weekend.
Good weather prevailed which benefited spectators and the bumper grid of riders too. Close racing in all classes right the way through the field guaranteed a charged atmosphere and some impressive rides.
The feature race of the day was the Buildbase Mallory Trophy Championship race which was hotly contested with National Superstock rider Peter Ward, who is local to Mallory Park, taking the win on his brand new 2008 Yamaha Superstock machine.
Second was Steve Tomes on the RLR Motorsport Triumph which being a 675cc bike was a little down on power against the 1000cc bikes. However, this didn’t stop the 2007 New Era Super Club Champion claiming pole position and going on to step on the podium. Third place belonged to Michael Nibblet on a 600cc Honda. Meanwhile last year’s Trophy Champion Mark Littler had to settle for fourth place on his first outing on the ex-James Hayden Hawk Kawasaki.
Mark Jessup from the East Midland Racing Association said: “We were very lucky with the weather and we also had a good entry. It was a fantastic start to the Championship and we are all looking forward to the next one.”
The next round of the six round Championship is on 20th April at Mallory Park. Admission costs £12.00, free entry for children under the age of 16; parking and paddock are also free.
