Mallory Park to host 2008 British Grand Prix
MALLORY PARK is thrilled to announce that it will be the venue for this year’s Motocross GP which will be held on the 1st June.
Today Mallory is known mainly as a road racing circuit, however, back in the 1940s it held Scrambles - the old fashioned term for Motocross! In 1951 it held the National Grass Track too, so off road racing isn’t a completely alien concept for the flourishing motorsport mecca.
This will be the first time that the Friendly Circuit has hosted a World Championship event and everyone involved is excited at the prospect. Stuart Bray, Deputy Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Council, who attended the press launch for the GP held at Mallory Park said: “I am delighted that the Motocross GP is coming to Mallory Park. It is putting Hinckley and Bosworth on the World Stage. Mallory is the jewel in the crown and a real asset to the borough. I intend to come along – I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
Mallory already boasts a motocross track which is open to the public and it is this area that will be remodelled to FIM regulations to create the World class circuit. The new Motocross track will be 1600m long and contain 22 turns interspersed with jumps and obstacles guaranteed to keep the racing close and spectacular. After the GP weekend the track will once again be open to the public allowing fans to ride in the wheel tracks of their hero’s.
John Ward, General Manager of Mallory Park said: “There is a lot of work going on at Mallory at the moment. We want to make it even more user friendly. With the Motocross, Rallycross, Supermoto, road racing for both bikes and cars all developing our long term plan to turn Mallory into a Motorsport centre. We would like to host some bigger meetings in the future and the World Motocross Championship is a good place to start.”
