Sykes secures Mallory Park pole
Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes stormed to pole position for his first time this year at round six of the British Superbikes at Mallory Park – and with 16-riders within one second of the leader, the racing is expected to be spectacular tomorrow.
Sykes and his team have a good record at the Friendly Leicestershire circuit and that paid off in full today as he lapped in 56.005secs beating his nearest rival, Michael Laverty, by 0.104secs.
Laverty will line up in second place with Championship leader Shane Byrne on the Airwaves Ducati in third place. Completing the competitive front row is local Coventry rider, Cal Crutchlow aboard his HM Plant Honda.
Sykes and Crutchlow are both determined to take the fight to Byrne and with Laverty picking up his first front row start of the season race day is shaping up well.
There is a full schedule of support races as well as Superbikes to keep everyone entertained tomorrow. The Focused Events KTM 990 Super Duke Battle is the first race on track at 11:40. That is followed by the first of the two Relentless British 125 GP races; the Superbikes hit the track at 13:15. The Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup and the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship will follow with the second Superbike race at 16:20.
Race day tickets can be purchased on the gate. Mallory Park is situated in the heart of the midlands in Leicestershire just off the A47 between Leicester and Hinckley and easily accessible from the M1, M69 or M6. For further directions, please visit How to Find Us.
