Triple World MX Champion Pichon at Mallory Park
THREE-TIME World Motocross Champion Mickael Pichon together with the teenage sensation who is tipped to win the MX2 World Championship this year, Ken Roczen, will take part in round two of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at Mallory Park on Sunday 21st. Roczen will also be joined in the Teka Suzuki MX2 team by Swiss rider, Arnoud Tonus.
These three riders will be joined by a host of Grand Prix regulars on the Leicestershire circuit, which has been specially modified to bring the action closer to the race fans. The first round was staged near Exeter in Devon at the end of last month, where the racing was furious in all races. The Buildbase CCM team of Stephen Sword and Tom Church together with the Cosworth Utag Yamaha pairing of American Zach Osborne and British teenager, Mel Pocock, have all missed racing for two weekends in preparation for this British Championship round, which they list only second to lifting a world crown.
A spokesman for ACU Events commented: "Having Pichon with us for the rest of the year and this one off appearance of Roczen and Tonus is fantastic for the Championship. Mickael still has a huge fan base and he is not coming to make up the numbers. In the shorter 20 minute plus two laps races (three for each class) we can expect him to be right at the sharp end of the action."
Also on the start grid will be the CAS Honda squad of Russian Evgeny Bobreshev and South African, Gareth Swanepoel, whilst the HM Plant Red Bull team of Jake Nicholls and Graeme Irwin will challenge for the top spot. Current MX1 champion, Jordie Brad Anderson, will also be there with his hard riding style.
Timed Training starts at 9.30am, with the first of six Championship races at 12.30pm. Race fans can also view some Club Road Racing on the Tarmac circuit free of charge and the motocross event has a MXY2 (Youth) support class of two races. The riders will all be available to everyone for an autograph session at approx 11.35am.
Admission prices are pegged at £20 for adults and £5 for children with a family ticket costing just £45. Mallory Park is easily reached from the M6, M1, M69 and M42 motorways, which will make it a must for a day of motorcycle action. For more information visit www.mxgb.co.uk or www.mallorypark.co.uk.
